Before & After

A year ago today, Hubby carried a very small person into the house. Harry, weighing a mighty 4lb 12oz, had finally come home.

Exactly one year later – and I swear I have not orchestrated the photo – the room looks like this.

and the baby  – now 19lb 11oz – has gone from this

to this.

All of which makes me want to smile and cry at the same time.

This is never a good look on me.

  1. Isn’t it amazing? Such little miracles… it seems like the days can be long but the years are short.

    He’s beautiful.

  2. Such a serious looking little guy, he’s adorable!

  3. Love the messy room-you can tell a baby lives at that house!

And Harry is, as usual, adorable.

  4. Blimey. My flat looks like photo two ALL THE TIME NOW. Though nothing has ‘Bob the Builder’ written on it. If I do have a child I shall no doubt lose it in the drifts on a weekly basis.

Congratulations on your beautiful, solemn-faced Harry. He’s wonderful. As is his mama.

  5. This is very unkind of me, but I found a certain relief in the second photo of your home, as mine has *always* looked like that one, only now it has more baby items. (I am not a very clean person nor is my home very “grownup” and it makes me feel terribly inadequate.)

What a grownup boy, so beautiful! And very serious about his walker there 🙂 Congratulations to him and you on this milestone. I suspect we will always feel this way–you look back and feel this mixture of protectiveness, pride, and amazement at how fast they grow. Here at 17.5 months I am continually boggled by how he is still so small and so grownup at the same time.

  6. What a lovely boy – in both those photos. Although I can’t see the little boy he has become in the first photo – is it clearer in real life?

    Congratulations on a fantastic milestone

  7. Much admiration for your Defensive Furniture Placement strategy there, esp. the chairs fencing off the bookshelf. And happy birthday to the wee one.

  8. Found your site from Mr. XBOX. You are hilhairyous!

  9. Makes me sniff whilst I smile, too. Look how he’s grown!! Warms the cockles, even after I have (virtually) stepped on a misplaced piece of deadly, deadly lego….

  10. I hope I’m that lucky. 🙂

  11. Hahaha, love the totally trashed room. Can’t currently get into, or see the floor of, TBB’s playroom.

    Harry’s grown so much!

  12. Awww… this is an adorable post. I dread the messy room, I am such a neat freak. I know it’s bound to happen. I have to let go.
    That boy is beautiful.
    *hugs*

  13. I’m a new-ish lurker just checking in to exclaim about that gorgeous hunk of a baby! Dear God he’s so CUTE!

  14. Lol at the living room! What a handsome little man!

  15. I was just comparing P’s “first day of school” photo at 11 months to that of this year’s (25 months) and the difference is astounding. Just think what Harry’s will look like in a year’s time! I hope the child-related detritus doesn’t increase by year too, or else we’re both in for a whole lot of trouble.
